Agriculture Unmanned Aerial System (UAS) Technician
Barnum,
United States
Job Overview
Airstrike Ag is a specialized agricultural technology company that bridges the gap between traditional farming and advanced drone technology. We focus on sales, training, and precision drone services, operating as an industry-leading authorized provider for XAG autonomous platforms.
This role is ideal for a candidate with a background in Ag Tech, Robotics, or Mechatronics. We are looking for a high-caliber technician who is equal parts "digital mechanic" and "network architect." Based out of our active farming operation in Barnum, Iowa, you will be responsible for ensuring our XAG fleet remains mission-ready by managing the intersection of heavy-duty hardware, complex 4G/RTK networking, and system-wide software integrity.
Key Responsibilities
Training & Mission Readiness
- In-House Certification: Before deploying to the field, the candidate must successfully complete Airstrike Ag’s rigorous internal training program. This covers XAG airframe standards, proprietary safety protocols, and "The Airstrike Way" of field operations.
- XAG Specialist Development: Maintain up-to-date knowledge on the XAG product roadmap and manufacturer-specific certifications.
Linux-Based Systems & Coding
- Embedded Systems Management: Navigate, configure, and troubleshoot Linux-based systems that power XAG flight controllers, localized servers, and ground stations.
- Light Scripting/Coding: Ability to write and execute basic scripts (Bash/Python) within a Linux environment for automated log extraction and system configuration.
GNSS, RTK & Network Connectivity
- Precision Positioning: Deep understanding of GNSS, GPS, and RTK (Real-Time Kinematic) systems. You will be responsible for ensuring the fleet maintains a "Fixed" status for centimeter-level accuracy during autonomous operations.
- Connectivity Mastery: Manage 4G/LTE M2M communications to ensure seamless data flow between XAG cloud services and the aircraft in remote rural environments.
Communication & Documentation
- Global Engineering Liaison: Act as the primary link between field operations and engineering staff. This includes the ability to communicate effectively with international support teams, which may require flexibility for calls or digital correspondence during non-standard hours.
- Maintenance & Mechanic Logs: Maintain meticulous service records for every XAG asset, ensuring a complete "paper trail" for flight hours and component lifespans.
Maintenance & Hardware Support
- "Wrench-in-Hand" Approach: Perform structural repairs, motor replacements, and intricate soldering on heavy-lift XAG agricultural airframes.
- XAG Power Systems: Oversee our high-capacity smart battery fleet, including specialized water-cooling charging systems and safe storage protocols.
Required Skills & Experience
- In-Season Flexibility: July is our peak "Battle Month." The candidate must be willing and able to work intense, non-traditional hours during the height of the application season to ensure our customers stay in the air.
- Target Background: Experience in Robotics, Agricultural Technology, or Mechatronics.
- Technical Proficiencies: Strong working knowledge of Linux (CLI), IP networking, and GNSS/RTK correction services.
- Physical Capability: Ability to meet the physical demands of the role, including working outdoors and the ability to lift/carry equipment weighing 50 lbs regularly.
- Licensing: Possession of (or immediate path to) an FAA Part 107 Remote Pilot Certificate and a clean Driver’s License.
